About Freetown

Freetown, New York, is located in the southeast corner of Cortland County.

It was formed in 1818 from part of the Town of Cincinnatus, and in 1820 part of the Town of Virgil was added.

Monday and Wednesday

3pm to 5pm 

Town Board Meetings are held on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at Town Hall.

Planning Board Meetings are held on the first Thursday of each month at 6:00 p.m. at Town Hall.

All meetings are open to the public, and Freetown residents are encouraged to attend.

Freetown Sheehan Park has a pavilion, picnic tables, grill, and electricity

Port-a-john, ball field and basketball court for rent.

Freetown’s recycle center is open every Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Accepting glass, plastic, metal, and paper. If you have questions, ask the attendant.

Amnesty Day – 5/17/2025 and 9/20/2025 10am-2pm. save yourself a trip to the landfill bring those items to the Town. NO TIRES.
